About us
Tampere Centre for Societal Sustainability (TaSSu) addresses societal change and its meanings through a human-centred perspective. Our research promotes an understanding of individuals’ and communities’ possibilities of participation and the preconditions of ecologically and socially sustainable transformations towards inclusive societies.
We aim to create theoretical and empirical knowledge of inclusive social practices, needs-based democratic and social innovations, and people’s opportunities of influencing their lives, their surroundings and the society.
Our work relies on collaborative and dialogic approaches, as well as interaction with diverse stakeholders ranging from individuals to policy-makers and organisations.
The centre approaches these questions through three inter-related thematic areas. Rather than representing separate research topics, the thematic areas indicate the main perspective/frame through which our people and projects examine societal sustainability.
