Mental health as a social policy challenge – a pragmatist perspective

Jarkko Salminen’s doctoral research examines mental health as a social policy phenomenon and challenge.

The societal causes of psychological distress are studied qualitatively from the perspective of young people who have received rehabilitation allowance for young persons, provided by Kela, and young people living in a suburb.

Pragmatist approach challenges the view of individuals’ experiences as isolated from each other and the society. It enables rethinking of the relation between mental health and social policy.
